Noopura Institute of Indian Classical Dance and Music was established in 1970 under the leadership of Dr. K. R. Kurup. Noopura periodically modified the Traditional art form of Kerala ‘Mohiniyattam', under the patronage of Sri. Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair and Smt. Kalamandalam Kallyani Kutty Amma.

Under Noopura there is a special centre for Kathakali in memory of late Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair. We Have been giving Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair memorial award for the past five years, to various experts of Kathakali. There is a Noopura award from this year onwards in memory of Kalamandalam Kallyani Kutty Amma. Even now, we have been giving awards for students who come out first in state school’s youth festival.
